Benefits of canine hydrotherapy

Canine hydrotherapy is great way for dogs to stay fit and healthy, whether it’s for fun, fitness or rehabilitation we are here and happy to help.

Fun and Fitness swims – Fun and Fitness swims are a great way to introduce your dogs to water in a safe, clean and hygienic setting. They will always be in the pool with our trained staff who are on hand to encourage, entertain and keep safe your dogs in the water. These sessions are great for dogs of any age.

Hydrotherapy – Hydrotherapy is a great way of treating medical conditions, joint problems, muscle pain, rehabilitation and weight management with our trained and dedicated hydrotherapy staff we assure you are in safe knowledgeable hands when it comes down to trusting someone with your beloved animals.

Did you know – 1 Minute of swimming is equivalent to 4 Minutes of walking.

The warm water makes the dog feel relaxed, increases the blood flow and gives pain relief, whilst the buoyancy properties help to support the body and allow the dog to exercise with less stress on joints, bones and muscles.

The more the dog can exercise comfortably, the more mobile they will become

How does it all work?

Prior to any session starting a vet referral form is required and can be downloaded here , this needs to be brought along to your first session with you and is mandatory to ensuring your dog is fit and healthy enough to swim with us, this can take a few days depending on your vet. (Please note without this that the swim cannot go ahead due to health and safety reasons).

Our initial sessions for both Hydrotherapy cases and Fun and Fitness cases are both between 45-60 minutes long, this allows us to get to know your dog and take time for them not to feel rushed, thus having a postive experience in the pool area, we are assessing them all the time and can then make recommendations on how we will progress either in the pool or any other beneficial treatments that may help them. (after this sessions can be reduced to 30 minutes if it allows)

After every session in the pool with us you dog will be rinsed, shampooed and dried, although not a full groom many owners love for their dogs to leave us smelling fresh after their weekly dip in the pool! That may indeed be the doggy perfume that we use….

My dog isn’t keen on water

Not all dogs take to water (Some are not natural swimmers) but don’t worry we see dogs like this all the time. Dogs are fitted with “life jackets” or “Harnesses” to keep them buoyant in the water and to keep them feeling safe, our staff work 1 on 1 with them in the pool at all times.

They may not love it at first, (they may not love it ever) but rest assured their health and wellbeing is our upmost priority and we know the tell tail signs that a dog has had enough for one day, nevertheless the warm water and range of motion with a dog not enjoying it as much is still hugely beneficial.
